Daily Reporting for 1 July
Happy Canada Day! Any other Canadians on the board?
Another month, another clean slate. I was really starting to fall off the wagon there at the end of June, but the turn of the calendar re-inspires me.
The goal for July is 1.5 hours of writing every morning. Bed by 10:00 pm.
In some ways it seems boring to keep working on the same goal. But I know the habit is still not rock-solid. Plus every time I increase the writing time, more things have to change: my rising time must be consistent, I have to go to bed early, I have to be disciplined about getting things done at other times of the day. So this one goal actually has a big effect on my life.
My husband goes on parental leave in a few weeks. So another challenge this month is continuing the early rising even though I will have all day to work and write.
So, I went to bed last night at 10:07. Up this morning at 4:17 and did 1.5 hours of work on the novel. I've started work on the actual draft, which is a big milestone.
I wish everyone a good month with your goals!
Agresik, it is not boring to be working on the same goal. Just break it down. One of my big goals is "to live a healthy life" - I was eating poorly and not exercising. I've broken this into 3 smaller goals; counting calories, walking, and now stretching and weights. Just break it down, which it looks like you are doing. Also, I'm with you when you come to having the entire day. My struggle this summer has been to keep things up as I prepare to continue my habits into the school year. Especially with health, I spend every summer getting healthy, and every year it's out the window by October. This year I do not want to let that happen, so I'm waking early (and everyone I know does not get this. All my colleagues are sleeping in all summer, just as I used to). Just keep it up, don't be too hard on yourself if you slip off the wagon (I didn't write for the last week of June - didn't even try!), and just climb back on.
I'm going to report in a slightly different way, and see how that feels.
