the order in which i'm going to declutter
I've been tracking the new habits i've been forming in the 30 day challenge, and i think that the next month's new habit for me is going to be to declutter for 15 minutes every day in the morning after i finish studying chinese.
Here is the order of things that i'm going to do:
office desk
desk in room
file cabinet in office (yikes)
file cabinets in room
closet in room
garage
storage unit
I'm hoping to get rid of my need for a storage unit by the time this is over. because of that place and my own laziness, i've probably spent more than $5,000 over the years to store about $350 worth of stuff :(
I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts on this who have done it before, if there is anything to say~
I find decluttering as addictive as collecting! I personally would find it hard to restrict my decluttering to 15 minutes - once I start, I get absorbed by the task.
I cleared a tray from my desk today. It was supposed to be an "In" tray. What it became was a "I'll get around to it tray". Stuff that I attend to immediately gets filed immediately in a box under my desk (effectively the year's archive), and actually never gets to the "In" tray! So, I'm not making space for "round-to-its".
I think many people can identify with your story of spending a lot to store very little, value-wise. Most of us have too much "stuff", and act to protect it without first thinking of its value to us in the first place.
Best of luck. Please keep us updated on how your decluttering habit goes, particularly with the filing cabinet.
