Last day of the month!  Only missed one day of actually completing my reading task.  The habit still requires the trigger and effort but it certainly has achieved what was sought.

So onto a new habit.

Today I am thankful for: 1. Winning a contest to go to a writer's conference in Columbus, OH; 2. Having two new friends to drive up with; 3. having the hope that I will be able to use the information to help me finish my novel.
New goal for Feb.
I was inspired by Jonathan Mead's blog on Eating Raw.  So for a tiny, tiny first step:
this month I will eat at least one raw fruit and one raw vegetable each day.
Today I had blueberries and celery.

Month of January is coming to an end and this is the last day of my visualization challenge. I missed once, I had some good and bad days and I enjoyed the whole process a lot. In the beginning of this month I had troubles visualizing for 10 minutes straight, now my average session takes about 25 minutes, my visions are clearer and clearer, feelings stronger. I can see the benefits in my everyday life and that is why I do not have to push myself anymore, these visualizations are something I consciously do for myself and look forward to. This is quite easy math, visualizations are effectively becoming part of my daily rituals from this day on. :)

It is time to focus on another very beneficial habit that I kept struggling with during the last year and I want to be doing 100 per cent, no excuses now... Get up at 5AM. Starting tomorrow.

Counted calories again. My awareness of what I'm eating is becoming more and more ingrained. I've been double-checking "estimates" (is this a half cup, is that 28 grams), and am getting rather good at it. I'll still double check with my measuring cups and my scale for a while, so that I am really aware of what I am putting into my body.

I am adding waking up early to my challenge, but want to keep reporting on the calories as well.

Day 4 of 30!
During the week my goal is to get up at 6:00 sharp.  On the weekends I have a 7:00 a.m. goal.  This morning, Saturday, I actually woke up a few minutes before 6:00 but stayed in bed for a while as a luxury for the weekend.  I did get up a few minutes  before 7:00 and then practice my yoga which was part of my original 30 day challenge.  Yoga is really an established habit now and I want to continue it.
As soon as I have breakfast I will take my vitamins (breakfast is my trigger).
I've read some of the posts here and find it inspiring and somewhat exciting to see how many people have accomplished what they set out to do.  What great energy is spread by the successes everyone is sharing.
Good luck to all!
Namaste...peace be with you.

Well, I did the MIT yesterday (habit that takes 10 minutes or less) but this was the first day the actual tasks didn't get done.   What I'm realizing is that, if the MIT are truly to "get done before anything else" then it's hard to put down stuff like "go running" if I want to do that later in the day.   So what I'm learning is not to be overly ambitious and to really just put down things that I want and am willling to do before all others.  That's what made me not get my MIT (ony 1/3!!) accomplished yesterday - because I put something down that would be done at the end of the day an then I got "caught  up" in other things.  I was scheduled to meet a friend in the evening, and then "oops!" the MIT wasn't done.

Good lessons, and this habit forming exercize is proving invaluable to me, as well as the self-reporting because it's time to reflect on why/how I get sidetracked or procrastinate.

So here's to one more day back on the wagon!

MITs written and only 1 left to do today.
Nejkenad - I have run into exactly the same situation with MITs that have to be done later in the day.

Day 31 - done!!!  I just walked/ran for 14 minutes (walked 5 min., ran 4 min., walked 5 min.).  Felt great, running is feeling smoother.  Woohoo I completed the January challenge of walking and/or running for at least 10 min. every day (and actually increased by a minute each week since I felt like it)!!!  I feel so excited about this.  I didn't miss a day.  Every time I've done it I've felt more energetic and in a better mood afterwards.  This is a big difference from past attempts at starting exercise - I'd try to do too much and be absolutely exhausted and unable to do much else of substance the rest of the day.  I am going to keep this habit of doing the treadmill daily.  The trigger of the kid's bedtime is working well for me - I definitely know the treadmill is the next thing I need to do - and like today, fine to have that on a weekend day too if I have a busy morning like I did today.
I am excited to start my second habit for February tomorrow.  My February habit is going to be not eating after dinner at all, unless I have determined that I am ACTUALLY hungry.  I've had a bad habit of eating in the evening even if I'm not hungry, either out of boredom, or anxiety, stress, just habit, or as a way to unwind or relax.  I want to stop this since it isn't healthy and I need to find a better way to relax or deal with emotions.  I know I'll feel better in the morning too and clothes will fit better.
My new habit will be this: after dinner, and cleaning up (no tasting food as I put away the leftovers either), I will take my vitamins (so no temptation later by being in the kitchen), turn out the light in the kitchen and then brush my teeth.  I will then go about my night.  If I get the urge to eat during the course of the evening, I will have a 10-minute "waiting period" where I have to do something else for 10 minutes to distract myself and to figure out if I am really hungry.  During the 10 minutes, I will either read, write if it is something that is bothering me (or just to write), call a friend, talk to my husband, come on this forum for extra motivation, or do anything else that successfully distracts me.  At the end of the 10 minutes, if I decide that I really have actual physical hunger, I can eat something but it needs to be raw fruit or raw vegetables (if vegetables can have a little dressing or hummus with it).
For this habit, the end of dinner/cleaning up is my trigger for take vitamins, turn out light, brush teeth.  Then if feel the urge to eat later, have 10 min. waiting period - if I determine it's real physical hunger, only eat fruit or vegetables.  This forum is really going to help me on this one.  I am looking forward to this since this is a habit I've wanted to change for a while.  Love this site!

Done done done!!! An interesting and productive experiment .. now on to my next 30-day challenge: Sundays aside, the first thing I do (for at least 30 minutes) when I switch my laptop on is work on marketing my new e-book. Bring on the (further) success!
Great to see everyone else finishing the month strong
